"Rain, Rain, Go Away!" - Or Please, come out & play!

This pictures is definitely a case of not knowing what you've got until you dig a little deeper. We haven't had rain here in San Diego in about two weeks and as we head into the dry season it looks like we won't be getting much more this year. It's a challenge for me to grow a garden (just another thing to take care of) and moreso in conditions that differ a lot from NJ's seasons, but with extra attention paid to the watering, our garden is thriving.

I was taking pictures of the plants, two strawberry plants, a tomato plant, some wildflowers and two tiny pots one of tomato (from seed) and the other of peppers (from seed)... unfortunately, I forgot to label them... lol So I guess we'll see what grows from each.

Anyway, back to the story... I was shooting the plants when I noticed the drops of water from an earlier watering lingering on the leaves. I shot in macro, but the pics were jus so-so. When I got them uploaded I blew this one up to the actual pixels and low and behold, picture 13 :)

Update!

Okay, so maybe it's not such a "twin thing," anymore. Any of you that know us in real life, and most of you those of you that only know one or the other, know that we have a love/hate relationship. Well, the LOVE has taken it's course and it out like a winter storm. Both of us being as stubborn as we are and the fact that we won't see each other for a couple of months, makes this phase a little longer.

That, paired with some personal issues I have going on, I haven't really taken any pictures the past few days. I promise I'm not giving up though. I didn't get the chance to take a frozen treat picture but I did get to the Carlsbad Flower Fields (SD girls they close this SUNDAY so get there before then if you haven't been!) today and I got a bunch of awesome pictures. Here are 5 of my favorites. Check out my FB for the rest of the pics!!!

Hopefully, the tide will turn and things will settle down between the two of us and the pictures will start rolling in from both ends. Until then, please stay tuned for more of my photos!

"Empty" - Bowl

Cody is quite the character. This is one of those completely unplanned pictures. I was sitting on the couch on the phone with one of my friends when Cody makes an appearance with his empty bowl in tow. He does this quite often. Luckily my camera was sitting right next to me.
It wasn't until a few minutes after I snapped this that I went into the kitchen to get another cupcake (see: Sunday's theme) that I realized that he did something else that he does often. He emptied that full bowl of water all over my kitchen floor.
Thanks alot Cody! I needed to mop the floor anyway!

Today's Theme... No Post...

Today's theme was suppose to be empty. I got some crappy news today and I'm really not up to taking pictures. I'm going to try my hardest to take one tonight, if I feel better, and if not I will take & post an "empty" picture tomorrow along with whatever tomorrows theme is. Sorry.

My FAVORITE picture so far...

Our 1000th view. :)

"Baked Goods" - Birthday Cupcakes

"Don't need shrimp or steaks,
just need a box and some eggs, to make...
BIRTHDAY CAKE
BIRTHDAY CAKE!"
Okay, corny as heck.. but it's our dog Michi's 5th birthday! I've been craving (literally for weeks) vanilla icing and yellow cake. This is the first special occassion that's come up that I've been able to bake for.
So there is one and yes I devoured that cupcake mere seconds after I took this photo! :) Enjoy your night, I'm going to stuff my face!

"Circle" - Sign

It's where we bought of first car, affectionately known as SB (Sexy Bitch), and it's where we will most likely be buying our second in the coming months.
We went to a command picnic yesterday afternoon & I hoped I'd find something circular there but it was a bust. Then we went to check out some trucks and I remembered about these cute old- fashioned signs on Mile of Cars and thought BINGO!

Circles.

"Purple" - Purple Daisies

There is a bed of daisies along side one of the walking paths in our apartment complex. The majority of the daisies are yellow, and crushed because of some wild animal running through them (Cody), but they are speckled with a handful of pretty purple daisies that I've been waiting to take pictures of!
Look how deep the purple in the center is! That's my favorite part!

Kurri: Plants

I guess this picture is more about the pots than the plants. Last year I bought 10 pots and let all the kids that randomly hang around our house paint them. I tried to get handprints of all the babysit-ys so we could compare them to this year. The pots weathered nicely (I did put clear spray paint over them to protect the paint) and I started these broccoli plants in them. Unfortunately I didn't know that broccoli likes cool weather until AFTER I purchased the seedlings. Oh well, you live and learn. I'm growing strawberries and tomatoes, as well, but I already KNOW I can grow them. I probably won't do broccoli again but maybe a container of beans next year?

"Plants" - Or Cacti...

Twins on each coast have taken up gardening this year. Without a garden, and just a 6x10 patio, all of our plants have to be potted. :( But we got down to business last night and I'm happy to report there are a bunch of cute little pots of soil occupying the outdoor table!
Without anything interesting to photograph with them, I turned to my other plant... the brand spankin' new love of my life, my cacti and succulent garden! Only needs watering every 7-10 days (more than I can say for the dogs!). Very easy to care for & looks adorable on top of that!

Kurri: Artificial

My artificial eyesight. Glasses on top because I'll always love them more.

"Artifical" - Sunny D

Artifical as it may be, Sunny D is one of my favorite drinks of all time.

Kurri: Eyes

My eyes are what get me the most compliments. My forehead is the part of my body that annoys me the most. (Followed by neck and flabby arms.) This picture has both the eyes and the forehead. And you are here for that... Aren't you the luckiest blog readers in the world??

"Eyes" - Puppy Dog Eyes

Cody was jealous that I was going to post Mich's picture & was giving me the puppy dog eyes! Nah, seriously he was mad upset because we put him in the crate while we were eating dinner!
They are my best models so they might show up a few times more in my pictures!

Today's Theme is....

Eyes.

Update from Kurri.

I haven't abandoned you! My aunt borrowed my camera for a baseball game and I haven't got it back yet so my larger than life and fences photos won't be up until I get it back. We haven't decided on a theme for today and I'll be posting my grin picture later on tonight. Sorry for the delay!

Kurri: Grin

As I'm sure someone will respond (probably Joey but I can't rule out a family member) smiles from me are few and far between. Enjoy it while it lasts...

"Grin" - Mich

Mich is definitely one of those dogs that "smiles" at you. I was lucky to get this picture because he has been a grouch for the last few days!

Kurri: Fences

I really love aging wood. This is the fence (and step) under the deck to the pool.

Today's Theme is....

Grins, grinning or smiling in general!

"Fences" - Imperfect

I wish I could choose more than one photo for today's theme. Write to Kurri and ask her, she is convinced that I took one (or more) picture of every fence in southern California.

On our trip to Cabrillo National Monument, which incidentally is free this week because of National Parks week, and to Seaport Village, I encountered a bunch of perfectly built, level and squared fences. But behind the lighthouse there was a small thrown together vegatable patch with this ratty, rundown, chickenwire fence and it really caught my eye.

I'm not sure if it's the juxtaposition of the perfect picket fence behind it, or the old wine barrel and I know the composition is probably really out of whack, but for some reason this picture really, really catches my eye!

I'm sure that you'll get a glimpse of the other more perfect fences in our next outtakes post.. like I mentioned earlier, I took over 900 pictures this weekend.

Anyway, enjoy.

Today's Theme is....

Fences, gates & retaining walls! :)

Kurri: Larger Than Life

If I thought that this was really going to be my final idea for this post, I would have found a more perfect tree but I guess not everything is perfect.

"Larger than Life" - The man himself..

When it comes to larger than life, who better to fill the shoes than the man himself? This is a macro picture of a Mickey Mouse lollipop that I had at Disneyland yesterday! Good trip, better lollipop!

Sorry it's late.. I had a really long day and just got the wire for the point and shoot a little while ago. After uploading 900 pictures I was able to finally post this one!

Today's Theme is....

Larger than life.

I have a feeling our pictures from today (4/23) are going to be uploaded sometime tomorrow. I have visitors and can't go digging through the drawer to get the camera wire (I used Angel's point and shoot today) and Kurri is having a sleepover with my godson, who made his debut in her black and white picture!!!!

We aren't giving up though, just a little delayed. Stay tuned.

PS What do you think tomorrow's theme should be??

"Black & White" - Britt

I'm experimenting with the macro setting on the camera. I'll leave it up to your imagination what is black, white and lacey in my house. ;)

Today's theme is...

Black & White.

Kurri: Black and White

A day late and a dollar short. I happened to fall asleep early last night... like before I could take a black and white picture. Luckily for me my favorite person in the whole world is staying with me over night today and he gave me more than enough to take pictures of. I particularly love this one. He was picking up acorns to throw at my brother. What an angel.

Kurri: Candlelight

I was actually in the mood to use the very romantic candlelight theme and turn it dark (I know, that's a big surprise.) by maybe burning some old pictures or letters or something but I'm not one to literally play with fire. I'm irrationally afraid of fire and wind. So I took the girly way out and tried a few different things: wine, books and finally settled on my trinket box (which is in dire need of a shining).

Oh and PS: If you were wondering what the lovely orange growth that seems to be coming out of the candle is, fear not my readers... it's just my arm. I can't steady this camera with one hand and I gave up trying to find an angle where I wouldn't be seen. Two points to Kurri for making ANOTHER appearance in a picture.

I know it's a very literal interpretation of today's theme, but if you knew how many times I had to light and, in turn, blow-out that candle to create those ridges, maybe you would appreciate this one a little bit more.

The way candle light plays with shadows, including in it's own wax, is what caught my eye. I didn't have much time to play around with the editing on this one, so it's pretty raw!

Rollbacks : Brittani

Some of my favorite outtakes!

Kurri: Rollback

Two blues. A couple pairs of shoes. My home. My travels.

Rollback

Today we decided to post five pictures we took for various themes that didn't make the cut. Each day we take multiple pictures with multiple 'poses' and send them back and forth to each other until we agree (or sometimes not) on which we like the most.

Kurri: Nostalgia

My teeny tiny hands now and then. They haven't changed much. I remember the day we did these in kindergarten. I remember washing the paint off in the sink that was in the coat closet (with a toilet, too! How convenient!) I'd start all over again and go back to that day in a heartbeat if I could.

"Nostalgia" - Homesick

From Webster's : nostalgia - 1. The state of being homesick : Homesickness
I think this one is self-explanatory, that photo album is full of pictures from the last few years. When I get homesick it's what I turn to, to keep me from going mad. Did you know that 'nostalgia' was actually a reason for discharge from the military all the way up until the end of World War II??

Kurri: Travel

Anyone care to travel in circles? Oh c'mon, we all do it. Somehow or another we wind up right back where we started.

It's 4am. My sister guilted me into promising to post my pictures tonight. I have been up since 7am. I was in a car for 3 hours. I was working on invitations for 9 hours. I want to sleep for 24 hours (considering I didn't sleep in once this weekend) but it looks like it's going to be about 3 and a half hours.

You got your pictures... aren't you happy? :oP

"Travel" - Home Away from Home!

This guy definitely gives new meaning to, "home away from home." Is it really called 'travel' when you are in your own home??

Anyway, I love the corky things we see whenever we got on the road out here!

Definitely enjoyed this one. That is actually a vintage pick-up truck!

Today's theme is....

Travel!

I just got in from a day trip to visit some friends, so my picture will be coming soon! Kurri is also home (finally!) and her pictures will be up later on tonight. It was a rough weekend for picture taking!! :) But the project continues!

"Closed" - Caged In

I can't believe that it took me six days to weasle the pup into one of my pictures! In any case, here he is "closed" into his cage. It's not his favorite spot but both dogs were real sports while I took over 100 pictures, trying to get this one!!!

They got a little tired and bored. Since Kurri won't be able to post today (hotel doesn't have internet) I'm sharing one more of their cuteness... feel free to tell me how cute they are!!!!

Kurri: Closed

I was lucky enough to spend the weekend in Wildwood. Usually this time of year the entire place is shut down but thanks to a few thousand cheerleaders Wildwood was alive this weekend! This is a random thrift store on the corner and it was the first Closed sign I spotted when we came into town. The bike showed up there some time during the day and I took this at sunset (a few beers deep). It's not perfect but it's vivid and I love vivid!!!!

Today's Theme is....

Closed.

With a mini-vacation to Wildwood, slightly before their "open season," I think one twin has a clear advantage today! :cough, cough: Kurri.

"Welcome to Wildwood. Sorry We're Closed."

On the hunt for things that lack openness today!

Kurri: Heart's Desire

I thought this would be difficult because I consider myself fairly heartless. When I wake up in the morning I never question what I want. I just live, breathe and sleep. Today I asked myself 'what do you desire from this life?' and my answer came simple: health and wealth. I started trying to think of ways to put that in a picture but that's where I hit my wall. I think this picture works for that. But if there's any question... MY HEART DESIRES HEALTH AND WEALTH.

On a side note: I'm on a mini vacation this weekend so I won't be able to post my pictures at a decent hour. I apologize for this. I will be in Wildwood tomorrow and Sunday so I'm not sure if I'll be able to post at all. I will DEFINITELY take the pictures and post them on the appropriate days once I have internet.

PS It took me FOREVER to fold that dollar!

"Heart's Desire" - What's stopping me?

Phew, I never thought this project would get as intense as it has seemed in the past couple of days! Today's theme is a particular challenge because finding my "heart's desire," is an issue that I deal with on a daily basis. I don't have any real direction in life and if you would have asked me this afternoon what I really wanted, "nothing" would have been my response.

In order to get motivated today I enlisted the help of one of the most creative people I know, my friend Nicole. I asked her how I was going to do this when I had no idea what my heart wanted. Thinking outside of the box, as she always does, she suggested photographing something that would symbolize my struggles with this question.

I sat down this evening to do just that. I was going to make a wall of post-its of all the things that are keeping me from my dreams, except..when I started to write my hands (as they so often do) just took me to where I was going. A bucket list of sorts. The hurdle I leapt, was getting passed the idea that I could want just one thing out of life, I want a lot. And instead of the 'nothing' symbolizing what my heart's desire is, it's a one word response to the question, "what's stopping me?"

"Blue" - Camoflauge

I guess we all have days when we are un-inspired. Today is mine. It shouldn't have been too hard to find blue around me and photograph it well, afterall my entire apartment (excluding the kitchen) is blue & brown. On top of that is was a wonderful sunny day in Southern California, with the bluest sky I've seen in a while. Yet here I was, completely uninspired.

Then Angel walked in, in his new, navy-issued, blue camoflauge. Don't know why or in what situation blue camoflauge would actually "camoflauge" anything. But hey - it's blue.

Tomorrow's picture will be better.

Kurri: Blue

You like? I like. I hate to admit it but my photoshop skills are way better than my photography skills. This picture looked nice when I took it but it looks so much better now. This is one of many many many pictures I've taken today. My idea was to use blue food dye in water. I always loved doing that when I was younger because some crazy cool patterns are created.

Today's theme is...

Blue.

Day 4 should be an interesting one!

Kurri: Chores

I didn't have any chores to perform today so this one was definitely a toughy. I started thinking of 'different' ideas for today's challenge. Instead of recreating a chore I didn't HAVE to perform today, I thought about all the things I do to avoid doing chores. My computer, my camera, my phone and my book. They are essentially my entertainment. My life. My anti-chores.

Nothing worked well for me today. I felt rushed and in turn left my camera battery at home effectively making my new camera a paperweight. I did what I could but I hate this picture. Better luck tomorrow.

PS I'm on California time.
